Photography Contest Rules
Deadline: October 5, 2012

ELIGIBILITY: Photographers of any age and that are non-professionals are eligible.

COST: $5.00 per entry

1. No residency restriction for contestants. Photographs must be the work of the contestant.

2. Each photo entered must include a completed and signed entry blank. Type/print clearly.

3. Entry blanks may be photocopied.

4. A separate $10 fee must be included if you want photos returned.

5. Photographers present on the day of the show may pick up their photos after the presentation.

6. Photos having return fee paid will be mailed. Photos not picked up or mailed will be the property of the Madison County Arts Council Photo Group.

7. One check is OK for all photos entered and return fee.

8. Place a label on the back of your photo (in the lower right hand corner) with the following information:
Name of photographer – Category – Title of Photo

9. If there is doubt as to how to display – place an arrow, on the back, pointing to the top.

10. Winner presentation will be at 4:00 P.M. on the day of the festival.

CONTEST FORMAT:

1. Entries must be postmarked or delivered to our office by 5pm, October 5, 2012.

2. No signed or dated photographs accepted.

3. Photography entries will be judged in a private session.

4. Grand Prize Winners will be notified by email or phone prior to the show. Make sure email address and phone number is legible.

5. Winners’ photos will be posted on the Internet.

6. Photographs must be submitted as full 8″ x 10″, glossy prints, unmounted, unframed, and with NO BORDER.

7. Transparencies will not be accepted.

8. Contestants may enter as many categories as they wish with no limit on number per category.

9. Any violation of the contest rules will result in disqualification. NO REFUND

10. Photographs should be suitable for family viewing and the Photography Committee reserves the right to refuse entries. HINT: Judges are not in favor of edited photos (Photoshop, etc.) therefore not encouraged.

AWARDS:

BEST OF SHOW – Will receive $200

BEST OF SHOW – “Runner Up” will receive $100

BEST MUSHROOM (S) – (Color or Black & White) will be awarded $100

PRIZES – First ($25), Second ($15), and Third ($10) Place winners in each category.
Each will also receive a ribbon.

Book Sale & Signing & Workshop

Writers Guild FlyerThe Madison County Writers Guild invites you to the Texas Authors book Sale and Signing on Saturday, February 18 from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. at the Kimbro Center. This year, we will be having short story and poetry readings during the book signing, and we invite Arts Council members and their family and friends to come out and enjoy a good old fashioned story or two. Readers will include our very own Burke Landry, Lloyd Perry, Betty Strawther, and more. There is no charge for Saturday’s festivities, and space is still available for authors who are interested in participating.

Then on Sunday, February 19, we’ll host our Annual Writing Workshop from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30p.m. at the Kimbro Center. **note** if you can’t quite make 1 p.m., come anyway!** Our speakers will be Janet McCann, who will lead a poetry workshop from 1:00 to 3:00, and Mark Troy, who will lead a short story workshop from 3:30 to 5:30. Prices for workshop participants are $25 in advance, and $30 at the door. (Guild members get in free of charge.) CLICK HERE to download our flyer.

Art Affair Members at BVAL Show

Art Affair members Toni Hardy and Rita Spencer recently entered their work in the Brazos Valley Art League/Lone Star Art Guild Judged Show, and made us proud!

You can see all the work from the 3rd BVAL/Lone Star Art Guild Judged Show until February 3rd at The Arts Center at 2275 Dartmouth Street in College Station.
