Flute Concert with Linda Wiley – Nov 21
SAVE THE DATE!
Flute Concert with Linda Wiley
November 21, 2010 at 2 PM
Kimbro Center – on the square
Downtown Madisonville
The Madison County Arts Council will be sponsoring a Flute Concert with Linda Wiley and her piano accompanist, Robert A. Leslie. It will take place at the Kimbro Center on November 21, 2010 at 2 PM. The concert will be $10 a piece and will last about an hour, and coffee and tea will be served with delectable desserts.
Ms. Wiley’s repertoire includes pieces by Faure, Poulenc, and others. This will be a fundraising event for the Arts Council, so we’re looking for a lot of community support.
Seating will be limited for this event. Contact Kim Davis at 348-5397 to make early reservations. Seats will be $10 apiece. Coffee and dessert will be served afterward.
Dr. Linda Wiley began playing flute like most musicians in Texas–through the public school band program. After high school, during which she was named to the All-State Band, Wiley continued music studies at Sam Houston State University. She earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Performance there, playing first chair flute and piccolo and studying flute for six years with Jan Cole. After completing her studies, Dr. Wiley taught private flute lessons in several area schools as well as at SHSU.
Following a twenty-year career with the Windham School System and completion of a doctorate in adult education, Dr. Wiley returned to teaching and playing flute. She began giving solo recitals with Dr. Robert A. Leslie in 1998. Additionally, she has performed with the Band of America and the Brazos Symphony. Since 2003 she has played for several musical productions in Conroe, and appears regularly at The Homestead restaurant in Huntsville. She continues to teach students in Huntsville, from beginners through high school.
Linda Wiley will be accompanied by pianist Robert Leslie.
Robert Leslie has given piano and organ recitals in Texas, New York, Georgia, and Oregon, as soloist and as a member of chamber music ensembles. He holds degrees in piano and organ performance from Florida State university; in theology, from Austin Presbyterian Seminary; and a doctorate from McGill University in theology and musicology. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists. Moving to Bryan, Texas, in 1981, he served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan from 1981-1999 and was on the faculty of the Texas A&M College of Medicine Health Sciences Center Department of Humanities in Medicine from 1990-2004.

Bluegrass Concert a Success!
Congratulations to the organizers of Sunday’s Bluegrass concert featuring Digger Davis and Tombstone as well as a talented group of local performers including Burke Landry, T. J. Holden, Wade and Nick Phillips, Nathan Dean and Lanier Stevens. In spite of the heat, we had a great turnout. Thanks to all who came to support the Arts Council by attending this fun event. The music was uplifting and the hot dogs and Blue Bell ice cream hit the spot. We heard many people commenting that they would like the Arts Council to sponsor similar events in the future. Thanks also to Keep Madison County Beautiful’s Green Team for helping us do the right thing by recycling.
